Jon and I created a false bolt to use in the sport of Geocaching. It was a very fun project, and we hope the cache is just as much fun to find. Jon did all the work on his mini lathe. Meaning I was responsible for documenting the process ;) We hope to try a couple other types of bolts in the future. The version of this that I make is a little bit different....
I glue a good magnet inside the chamfer of a standard hex head nut with JB weld, place an o-ring in the bottom of the nut. Then I take a bolt cut the head off and drill a blind hole in it for the log sheet. Then you screw the bolt into the open end of the nut. Place the assembly onto any metal surface and there you have it! An obscure geocache! I use a 1/2-13 bolt and place them in places like guard rails and bike trail bridges.

Good cache! I have a video here of the first time I took a friend caching and we found one like that.... after LONG search. Now I ALWAYS check bolts! Nice vid.
