We traveled this road dozens of time in 1954-55, usually in a rented Fiat. Most memorable stop was at ??? where we climbed some distance up to a monastery and had cactus beer (GAG) with the monks. Massawa, of course, was always our destination and the (was it Ciaao) Hotel with those slow turning Sidney Greenstreet fans.

Filfil-Selemuna is a heaven on earth - an African paradise - the most beautiful, serene, and mesmerizing landscape in the new Gold & Oil rich African nation of Eritrea. The amazing winding roads built by the Eritrean finest - The Warsay Yikaalo - is a testament to the noble work ethic enshrined into every Eritrean mind that is, slowly but surely, changing the Eritrean landscape, brick by brick, and affirming Eritrean place as a beacon of hope for the African continent in the process.
