I LOVED the happy ending (very up-to-date educational ideas for that day and age), and how wonderful that they realized how precious that baby's life was -- not one thought of "sweeping it under the rug" because of what people might thing (GRAN-MAMA's sentiments, for instance)! Cookson is a great storyteller.......and I see a repeated theme of finding family sometimes not of one's own blood.
