  • there are more theories surrounding altruism other than kin selection and social contracts, such as the sexual selection hypothesis, reciprocal altruism, and indirect altruism, its an exciting emerging area of research

  • there are two evolutionary benefits of altruism for animals. one is tit of tat amoung a social group, the other is helping related members of a group as they share genes. when atruism is observed that shows no obvious benefit to the animal doing it, it is simply an acciental by product of an evolutionary trait that doesnt always work, but usually does.
