  • Bach wrote on all of his music: "To the honour and glory of God. His consuming passion was the study of theology. The Christian monks in the 9th to11th centuries were instrumental in developing modern day musical notation. One of them was the Italian monk D'Arezzo, who was responsibe for the modern day stave. Present day orchestration, composition, instrumentation and principles of piano performance all came from the Judeo-Christian ethic.

  • Classical music came out of the church.

  • What is your soul worth to you? It is possible to create a legacy that will outlive you. But "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose His own soul" (Mark 8:36). Do you know that when you spend your life focused on anything more than God, it is tantamount to idolatry? Bear this in mind: " For by grace you are saved through faith and not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2: 8). Jesus saves.

  • Music is created to glorify the Creator. Since God is the author/owner of all creation, we do not possess anything that He did not give us. The greatest of musicians are not gods or goddesses for they are limited by the very fact that they had to been created. Therefore, we should give God back the gifts that He has given us by investng in His Kingdom. Also acknowledge Him for His beneficence.

  • When we indulge in self-exltation, we rob God of His glory. When we perform, we should direct it towards God or His Kingdom. Too often pianists think of other renowned pianists as gods, goddesses or demi-gods. Romans 1:25 warns us about those who "worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator." The performer may be commended for a fantastic performance, but in the total equation, God gets the utimate glory for permitting things to be.

  • Another way we use God's glory for our own purpose is in artistic competition or performance. Comparisons are the hallmark of classical music performances. Men compete for God's glory. What we have to remember is that God measures everyone with a different yardstick. However, He does it according to what you have done as compared to what you should have accomplished. God is a just God. He is the only one capable of making just demands on your potential.
