I have deliberately read hundreds of comments, and there is no question, many of the negative commentators and some of the positive ones have real ego problems. I make no apologies for my comment. Sorry if I have over generalised. You write, "She doesn't do it for me. And that's ok." I agree completely. So relax, find those you really love and enjoy.
Do yourself and everyone else a favour, not wasting time on her videos.
Each of us dislikes lots of music. Irrational to go there!
@operafan0anegnd I think it's great when people feel strongly about particular performers. I will always love Fleming, and some people hate her singing. I do not find Netrebko's acting or interpretations to be especially compelling. But that's my opinion. What I take issue with is the notion that just because they don't like her it's somehow a reflection of their inflated ego. I've heard her recordings, heard her live and seen many videos of her. She doesn't do it for me. And that's ok.
(2)Not found one opera singer that has maintained perfect accuracy and technique over all their available recordings. Compare Anna's worst recordings against the best of another great singer, and no doubt she will come out worse for the comparison. Many are recorded and edited, while anything Anna sings live, somebody immediately puts on the internet. Some admit they post her recordings just to point out faults!!!
In a fair statistical comparison, Anna would rank among the best!
Have been an opera fan for 45 years, have heard, love many of the old singers.
However my ears and brain tell me that Anna ranks amongst the best.
She portrays characters beautifully and I feel elated hearing her.
But we will never agree. To me overall artistic effect is paramount,
while perfection of technique and perfect accuracy, while great as goals and desirable, are of secondary importance. I do read musical scores. Disagree as to the importance of your metric. All the best.
@operafan0anegnd Netrebko has/had a world class instrument, but lacks a world class vocal technique. Her huge career has been much more the result of clever marketing than of the artistry of her vocalism.Image and pubic appeal have always mattered, but at one point the popularity of opera singers used to center around the quality of their singing. Perhaps you should spend a little more time listening critically to these "dead singers" and then you'll understand what people are taking issue with.
@PopoliDiTessalia There is no mystery. They do not only pick on Anna Netrebko.
It is her great fame that attracts them. They pick on all the other great singers as well. The ones they claim to like are almost always dead. Full of feelings of lack of self worth, they think they can elevate their wretched egos, by putting down the truly great people. If the great are bad, they think their criticism makes them superior to them. Can but feel sorry for them!
And just in case: Manon is supposed to sing "Et si Manon devait jamais mourir, ce serait, mes amis, dans un ECLAT DE RIRE"; not "(...) dans un orgasme".
Manon suits her.

Not matter of silly or stupid.
Some critics may be very intelligent and knowledgable.
Bel Canto just means beautiful singing.
There are more restricted definitions specifically designed
to restrict what they allow to be considered beautiful music.
They do not like music that does not conform to their constraints.
OK!
They have no right to look down on, sneer at those, who find Anna's singing extremely beautiful.
What constitutes beauty is a matter of taste! No one is superior!

18Dec(2) I have often listened to 40 sec of a video, not for me, get out,
listen to something else, never bothering to even click dislike.
Hey some will enjoy. Leave them to it!
Ego problems are not the worst. Many behave like childish brats,
who have never learned the most basic of decent adult behaviour.
That is truly very sad. Vocabulary sounds adult, but psychological state
definitely requires serious psychiatric attention.
Enjoy that which you really like!
Regards.
