Playas and Wildlife - No where on Earth can you find as many playas as in the High Plains. The wetlands are unique to the region with more than 50,000 in a six-state area of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. You may have heard of nor seen a playa wetland, yet playas are truly reflections of life on the plains, sustaining wildlife and people in this parched terrain. The wetlands provide safe havens for millions of migratory birds, and are the primary source of recharge for the Ogallala Aquifer. Despite these benefits, playas remain critically endangered wetlands and are fading from the landscape faster than people can protect them. This film explores the nature of playas, the values they bring to the region and how High Plains residents are working to protect these vital resources.
