Concert on Nov. 22nd, 2006 at St. Cross Church in Warsaw as a part of St. Cecilia Festival. Here with support of Pueri Cantores (a friendly boys choir from Plock) and Warsaw National Philharmony Orchestra conducted by Krzysztof Kusiel-Moroz, the headmaster and conductor of WBCh. With soloists. Not often can you listen to this piece by Gounod... so enjoy. This is the coda.

  • very dignified+ impressive, thank you

  • But is possible to find other variants:

    - But here they pray Domine salvam fac Galliam! On the tune of Gounod watch?v=vT4WUrSBZKM

    - And in an America college they pray: Domine salvum fac praesidem nostrum. watch?v=3SLwgnwubmg

And also Domine salvam fac Reginam nostram (Elisabetham)

  • However

    - Berlioz in his Missa solemnis has Domine salvum fac regem nostrum. watch?v=yurCfq4rsM8

(and also Couperin watch?v=K5BrALNh_o4 and Lully watch?v=e20JvdhG11w

Different times: there was a king or a Napoleon III in charge!

BTW, this motet is a citation of psalm 19:10 (Vulgata) : Domine salvum fac regem et exaudi nos in die qua invocaverimus te

  • Compare with this version on Youtube watch?v=Hjyo5-HpKDk

Res Publica in Latin means State.

Rome was the ''Res Publica'' all the long her history, also in the imperial times.

The Church used to pray ''pro omnibus res publicas moderantibus'': for all who govern the States.

  • Strange! Catholics in 19è century france used to be monarchist and sing "domine salvum fac REGEM" (god save the king). Gounod seem to was republican.

  • Domine, salvam fac Rempublicam nostram and exaudi nos in die qua invocaverimus Te.

I am impressed by this solemn prayer 'pour la République'. 'Domine salvam' is sung three times: 'Prière de l'Église, Prière de l'armée, Prière de la Nation'.

  • to loud for the first segment otherwise good
