The SIGMA ALPHA NU SORORITY, which stands for SOCIAL AWARENESS AND NATIONALISM, is an organization of ladies from the University of the Philippines who are committed to the principles of Truth, Reason and Justice and the goals of Nationalism, Academic Excellence, Leadership and the Uplift of Women.

Established in 1980 in Diliman, 1988 in Manila and 1993 in Los Banos, the
sorority has consistently made its presence felt in the UP campus by upholding the goal of leadership. It has produced countless college chairpersons, four (4) University Student Council Chairpersons and one (1) student regent.

This year, the sorority has made its presence felt on the national scene by
being given the honor of having Three of the Ten Outstanding Women in the
Nation's Service as awardees.

Stella Luz Alabastro-Quimbo 90-D
Her achievements include a number of publications in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals in Health Economics, Social Science and Medicine (forthcoming), The WHO Bulletin, Journal of Pediatrics, and the Singapore Economic Review. She has also presented her papers in the field of health economics in various international conferences.

Jo Enrica "jean" Enriquez 88-B
has been the Vice President of the Freedom from Debt Coalition, since 1999. She is also the Executive Director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women from 1998 til the present. She was also involved with the GABRIELA as Deputy Coordinator for Metro Manila (1991-1994) and Founding Secretary General GABRIELA-Youth.

Kara Patria David 91-C
is the only woman awarded with the distinction of The Ten Outstanding Young Men of 2007.

She is a recipient of the following media awards: UNICEF's 2003 Child Rights award for her "Selda Inosente" episode in GMA-7's "I-Witness", 2004 US International Film Fest Certificate for Excellence, 2004 Lasallian Scholarum Award for Best TV Documentary, 2005 Winner Asian TV awards, 2005 Finalist Japan Prize, 2005 Silver US Film Fest, 2006 Finalist New York Film Festival, 2006 Rotary Club Broadcast Journalist of the Year, 2007 Silver, US International Film fest, 2007 Lasallian Scholarum Award for Best TV Documentary.
