SelectPlusAustralia Has Ended Combat Operations in IraqAustralia Has Ended Combat Operations in IraqThe Associated PressAustralia has decided to end combat service in Iraq. The move fulfils a campaign promise by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, saying Australian troops in Iraq made Australia more of a target for terrorism. (June 2)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] SOT:Your work here is now done and it is time to return to your families and loved ones. You should be proud of your achievements. Fulfilling a campaign promise, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is pulling combat troops out of Iraq. On Sunday, troops lowered the Australian flag that had flown in the southern Iraqi city of Talil.SOT:You should be proud of your personal sacrifices and the part you have all played in bringing hope and prosperity to the people of Al Muthanna and Dhi Qa Australia has 550 combat troops in Iraq, mostly responsible for training Iraqis in logistics management, combat service support and counterterrorism operations. About 300 Australian troops will remain in Iraq -- mostly for logistical support. Everyone else will be home by the end of the month.SOT:I don't want to go into the precise detail of how we're going to extract, but fundamentally the extraction of the people will be done fairly quickly. They'll all be out in the month of June. In fact they'll all be back in time for that welcome home on the 28th of June. Six Australian soldiers were wounded while serving in Iraq. The Prime Minister says he remains committed to keeping about one thousand Australian forces stationed in Afghanistan. ___ ___, The Associated Press.(****END****) ANCHOR VOICE:-------------------------VIDEO PRODUCER: Kevin White------------------------------VIDEO SOURCE: APTN--------------------------VIDEO APPROVAL: Yes------------------------------VIDEO RESTRICTIONS: No Access Australia----------------------------------SCRIPT/WIRE SOURCE:------------------------------------

  • lets face it like every other country in the western world australia sucks up to america thats why we had to get ourselves involved in the mess that is the iraq war.

  • Please remember we deployed 2000 troops during the actual invasion.

  • I'm sure the Federal Reserve in America is thankful that Australia helped squashed Iraq's right to sell oil in any currency it wants to. Brilliant, Australia!

  • our government sucks and is corrupted no doubt but are military is the best there is. fuck off if u disagree.

  • fuck i hate ruddy!!!!

  • My hand over my heart and a salute of true honor to all our brave diggers, young and old, past, present & the future. We shall never forget or take for granted the sacrifice that is made for our freedom...LEST WE FORGET.

  • but still many of our guys over there dont even know why they are there. and even if it was the brits tryin to make an ass of us it shouldnt have taken 6 years to realize we got fucked over

  • @whstbonealumni07 To clear this up Iraq was for weapons of mass destruction. There was an intel report that the British PM gave to bush,he said they had weapons of mass but there was none.People blame America for this but ignorant to that it was the British PM that was all for it.Looks to me like the British wanted to make an ass out of America to me.Now Afghanistain isnt to find bin laden its to take the war back to there country were Taliban are.We fighting for Bali, london and 911

  • i just hope the current leader we have now can clean up this mess that the past started. im against the war but i do support all the troops from every country. i dont even know what we are fighting for anymore 9/11?? bullshit...to find bin laden...even bigger bullshit...

  • Idiots,America and Australia are very strong Allies.Keven Rudd is fucked in the head,he doesnt understand Australia's culture and sounds like alot of you forget too.Australia's culture is to always help a mate out no if buts or maybe's.Australia and America's aliance grew very strong in ww2 then alot more in Vietnam. This time i feal its just been a real flog off not sending more to Afghanistain. The british have alot of troops there to help them but we arnt pulling our weight!!Help them!!
