Don´t know if anyone remembers, but a detail that always makes me laugh in this movie happens whenever a group of reporters approaches the astronauts...because a sound which seems a flock of locusts can be clearly heard...any analogies? ha, ha..

@Defender78 - According to Chuck himself; Had he actually done that barrel role going mach 1 you would of found bits and pieces of of the X-1 scattered about several states of the USA..

@Hammeron2M no, he worked several years as a test pilot, then was a commander of an F-86 Sabrejet Squadron in Germany, then made C.O. of an F-100 Squadron, went back to Edwards as Commandant of the U.S. air force astronaut school, then was wing commander of a B-57 bomber unit that saw action in Vietnam, then served as air attache in Pakistan.

Sorry about the late reply.
I concurr with your post.
I'm 60 now, I served my beautiful Australia for 2 years in the Army, then 21 in the R.A.A.F.
Apart from that, YES, 'The Right Stuff', I feel, was ignored.
Disgraceful.

@scrubbypea I just totally love this movie ever since I was a kid in the 80s.This is my favorite scene from the movie.I love especially after Chuck breaks the sound barrier and the scene shifts back to him after they are celebrating at the base and Chuck is still climbing and appears to get a glimpse of outer space....the "Mach 1 Tune" during this little part you nailed right on!

Did he ever ride into space? He earned the rank of General straight up through the ranks.

Here's to you, Gen. Yeager, you inspirational son of a buck!
INCREDIBLE! This has always been one of my favorites of all time. I was working at MGM/UA (back in the early 80's). At the time TRS was up for the academy awards, and I couldn't believe it didn't win. When I delivered mail to the producers' office who made the film, I told them that they had been robbed of their Best Picture award. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I still believe it's true. What a great film!

Awesome! I love this movie - a true under-the-radar classic. Got to enjoy the "Mach 1 Tune" as I call it as well as the barrel roll at the end. Anyway, interesting story regarding your connection to The Right Stuff.
