This video shows how to check & top off the automatic transmission fluid in a 2006 Ford Explorer that didn't come from the factory with a transmission dipstick. The background noise gets a little loud. Sorry. A thunderstorm hit while I was working on the vehicle & I had a limited amount of time that the transmission fluid was going to be in the right temperature range to check it. Yes, I know, I need to insulate my garage.

  • My scan tool is generic and not able to measure temp. I do, however, have a laser temp gauge. Can I just aim the gauge at the bottom of the pan, and wait until the pan is in approx the right temp range and then measure fluid level?

  • @spelunkerd That's what I would do without a scan tool.

  • I have question pls, I have ford Taurus 2003, the think is I saw the fluid came from the dipstick gear !! What is the problem ?? Tahnks

  • @roro560v8 Dipstick gear?

  • great video. thank you.

  • good luck doing that without a lift...... stupid ford.

  • thank you very helpful man

  • my 07 toyota has a very similar fill design no dipstick you must get truck in temp check mode to check fluid then drain and slightly overfill it then tempcheckmode and open overfill plug on bottom of pan to drain excess then close off. Rediculus just another thing for the dealer techs to screw up!!!!

  • Great info no dipstick c'mon guys.

  • im most cases impossible to do at home

  • @hp11208 Lots of car makers do this, not just Ford

  • Is it such a problem for Ford to put a good ole fashoned dip stick in?

  • @HunterCO1 It is condensation, the gasket makes it appear to be red.

  • Very good info thank you for sharing.
