Ed was originally from Tennessee and he became a lawyer, a songwriter, a producer, and perhaps reluctantly, a singer. In 1958 Ed took a song he had written, "For Your Love", to Capitol Records hoping to interest Nat King Cole in recording it. After he had completed a demo of the song, Capitol decided they would just as soon have Ed record it, and this became his only hit peaking at #13 in April of 1958. He battled drug addiction in later years, but was able to combine talents with Marvin Gaye in the writing and producing of "Let's Get It On" in 1973.

  • Bobby Hatfield covered this song on his "Blue Eyed Soul" album. He did a really good job on it. But not as good as this . R.I.P. Ed you left us with a great song.

  • OMG - you just cannot beat this original. This really touches me deep, deep within my heart and do I ever have chills! God, this is such a special love song. It is one of the love songs that reached the zenith of love songs. That music and the background chorus - what a fabulous song. This is almost so beautiful I could just cry. Thank you more than I can express for this perfect love song.
