Because of Hong Kongs urban renewal plan, the oldest street market which has been in Central since 1841 is now under-threat.
While government is looking at the potential profit could be mad by rebuilding this area, Jewel Keung is working on a larger space where both the historic street hawkers and some of the best good suppliers and restaurants are included.
Her project seeks to create a food-themed local-global brand Central Kitchen, HK. It offers both the local residents and tourists a Beyond Food experience in which the participants can see the living history of the local street culture, enjoy some of the best local food and share their experience with others.
The final aim of this project is to illustrate a larger business potential can be brought by branding this region into a big attraction rather than replacing it with concert office tower and save the original sense of the street culture and identities here in Hong Kongs central area.
