It seems that by the time tune had crossed the Atlantic, it had already passed the point of no return. Just listening to a few bars of the Gene McDaniel version should convince anybody with ears that Georgie should have thought seriously about arranging this tune or simply
not bothered. How easily could you walk past this in a lounge. Certainly, the writer---
Burt Bacharach, no less---would have been thoroughly unimpressed.

One of my all time favourite songs. He was an under-rated genius, which may be why he has survived for decades while others have come and gone.
