@72ERIK Original written 1951 by Charlie Ryan and recorded by him in 1955. Reached top 100 in 1960 and also recorded by Johnny Bond that year which was also very popular. Charlie Ryan wrote the song about his Hot Rod Lincoln and the song is a true story. C Cody recorded in 1972 and is the best known version due to easy marketing by am and fm radio and increased access by listeners.

my dad,,, as a kid i used to shine the light for him as he souped up cars. learned every thing i know cause of him, and one day i built a beast and he dedicated this song to me, cus i love to race,,, cause of him. as the song says,, everythig happened acordingly. lol

This IS NOT CDB...... it IS however Asleep at the Wheel.... I own both Versions of the song. However, I think that Bill Kirchen's version is one of the best... (original guitarist on the Commander Cody recording of "Hot Rod Lincoln") George Frayne aka "Commander Cody" did more to make the song famous however... getting to #9 on the charts.
