  • continued.......fairing. And I consider myself a reasonably coompetant mechanic who just hasn't done forks before. I suppose I must have had on of those days. Right now I feel like either doing the head bearings as well or packing this bike lark up :(

  • @rawhide901 ha ha!

keep at it, working on shonky motorbikes is always such fun...I had great delight removing the exhaust on this particular bike....cheesy exhaust manifold studs that snap are horrible to remove...

  • there's luvly, Would you give the inside a flush out with parafin if it was very dirty?

  • @rawhide901 no, I wouldnt use parrafin. Just put some of the tqf fluid in and pump the forks up and down for a bit then drain. You should have enough in one bottle flush out a set of forks a couple of times, and you are using the right liquid so ne need to worry about paraffin residues....

  • doesnt ATF destroy rubber seals ? its made for metal gears

  • @IRSFRAUDEXPOSED it's the recommended fluid from the honda workshop manual. Autogearboxes have seals made of the same material at the propshaft connection remember.....

  • @TheMadworldguy no question is daft if you don't know the answer...

yes, spring out and fill it up .pump the damper rod a few times then recheck incase there's some air to get out of the bottom of the fork.Positive attitude...You are not attempting the job, you will do it..!!!

  • Do you have the fork tube compressed all the way down when checking the 130mm gap? Daft question I know but I'm attempting the job for the first time tomorrow and want to get it right.

  • @fabianromano not sure, I;ve never taken apart upside down forks. Usually they are all similar though...

  • This is great help. I want to replace the oil on my dirtbike's forks (yz250). They are inverted cartridge forks, so I guess it would be about the same as this but with the cap on the bottom of the forks, not the top like yours ?

    Cheers

  • Well I noticed I had an instrument bulb out so I took the fairing off, to change it and damaged a headlight bulb, thought might as well change the fork oil while I'm here, I took the forks off and discovered they were bent, badly, so I thought may as well build the suspension now, so from a £1 bulb I go to a £500 sus rebuild. Then the bike topled forward fell onto it's belly and went sideways. I was at the front so only half caught it, but couldn't move to get it back up, minor scratches to lwr
