This is a Jato I converted to an E-Jato by modding an Emaxx Motor plate to fit, a bore reducer for the 5mm pinion, using an extra VXL system I had lying around. Seems to run like a hot rocket. Just as fast as my 3.3 Jato, only quiet! Maybe not as much off line line explosion though. I think that this vehicle would do much better with a Mamba system in it, rather than the VXL. The VXL system freaks out on a 3s lipo, goes into protection mode immediately. So, I deactivated the LVC and kept an eye on it. My ESC and motor got fairly warm. I think I am going to gear down for sure. These tires are taped on the inside, and the rear's are BowTies that have been worn down to nothing now! Overall, I am VERY pleased with the performance of this conversion. I'm not sure that I will keep my Nitro Jato now actually! I will say one thing... this truck is almost too light. I don't see how you could drive it off road without doing a major tweak of the set up and tires.

  • I've since sold this vehicle.

  • I double checked last night... and I was incorrect on my gearing. I'm not far off though, but not quite that high. I'm running 54/22, but I'm going to pickup a 20T pinion soon to try. I have a 19T, but it's on my Emaxx right now. But I can still try it out.

I'll tell you this much though... if you turn the radio off before turning the ESC off (Which I know yer not supposed to do), the car will take off like a rocket FULL THROTTLE until you turn the radio back on. I have NO idea why either.

  • Yeah, it is. yer right. But I knew that going in. The 26T was the only pinion I had at the time. But I now have an 18T to try. I was hoping to get the EJato to be more like my 3.3 Jato, but that's going to take a MMM or MM for sure, not a VXL. And I'm not sure how much power the single speed tranny can take to be honest. I'd like to sell this EJato, or the Nitro Jato, or both. But was hoping I could get nitro-esque performance out of this BL conversion cuz I'd rather deal with BL. Thanks!

  • Nice! what gearing do you use? I have the same VXL BL set up on my E-Jato as well, I'm running 32P 17/54 for off road. awesome acleration. I will try 19/54 for on road later.

  • I'm running mod .08 54/26 in this video. I will say tho, that the VXL ESC is weird sometimes when it comes to LVC. It had a tendency to kick in early. Not so much when running 2S, but when running my 3s 5000mah Flightpower on a full fresh charge, my LVC kicks in almost immediately. So, I disabled it and monitored the lipo myself. The motor has a heatsink on it, gets "warm". But the ESC get too hot to touch, which is too hot! That might be why I had some weird glitching?

  • I am running a SMC 3S 18c lipo.

  • I am running a 62/15 right now, thats way to low! I am going to change to 58/17, think that is to low? Think i should go strait to 54/15 or 58/17 or a 54/17? Thanks!

  • well, 26/54 is too much gearing for VXL. I ran 17/54 with 3s lipo, no heat issue at all. you might need to gear down to 19t or 20t on pinion.
