Although India's HIV rate is much lower than other developing nations, some 5.7 million people still reportedly carry the virus. The efforts of Dr. Suniti Solomon and her team at the Y.R.G. Centre for AIDS Research and Education have taken care of 11,000 patients and are helping to slow the spread of the epidemic. (Part 1 of 2) Distributed by TubeMogul.

Therein lies the crux - when you're dealing with 1 billion people, 1% equals ten million - additionally, you have a situation with diseases that once you reach the 1% margin, it is said that the disease has reached the endemic stage. Everyone must do what they can to prevent it from happening.

even though 5.7 million is a huge number it is still only 0.57% of the population of India. The media sensationalizes it too much like its an endemic out there it's still less than 1% of the population that has aids. African countries have far higher rates like Botswana where the infection rate is 1 out of every 3 people.
