The biggest and strongest crane in the world at work installing the 14,000 ton deck box of the COSL Pioneer drilling semisubmersible on top of its 30 meter high, 9000 ton floating hull in a single operation.

TAISUN makes it possible to build the completely outfitted deck box entirely at ground level, instead of piece-by-piece on top of the floating hull, at 30 meters high. This puts Yantai Raffles' methodology ahead of its competitors in safety, effciency and overall project duration.

The crane has won several awards, including the ASME Woelfel Best Mechnical Engineering Award, the OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award and a Guinness World Record for lifting the heaviest weight ever by a crane.

  • I must say that Saipem 7000 and Thialf are fare more impressive than this; using gantry-cranes is cheating:)

Although I can understand that it is far more effecient, when possible to use.

  • You're right. While TAISUN cost 40 million US Dollar and takes 40 people to run, the Saipem 7000 and Thialf would cost more than 1 billion Dollar to construct these days, and take 300 people to operate, so they are indeed more impressive. But despite their complexity, their lifting capacity is not even close to this crane. In this respect I'd like to quote Charles Mignus: "Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity."

  • The fire-crackers sounded like heads popping off bull-ring bolts... bad memories.

  • Hi...What is the music name?

  • that would be funny if the guy set off the fireworks to soon and scared the crane operator

  • Yikes very impressive.. I wish i could have seen that lift! thanks

  • You ever have some of those Triscuit crackers?

  • Experienced OFFSHORE - MARITIME workers. Check out my profile for industry related features.

  • Agreed!

  • To compare floating cranes with fixed cranes is a bit pointless? They are different beasts entirely, although all three mentioned are extremely impressive! I would love a tour of TAISUN though, any chance?

  • yup dear its realy impressive but i have also seen some rigging in my companay DESCON ENGINEERING LTD pakistan up to 500 tons
