Update: Earthship regrets to announce that tours of the 'Giant' will end this year (2011): More from LifePlusStyle.com http://www.lifeplusstyle.com/thegiant08042011.html

Pendleton, Indiana (09-13-2010) -- There's a place I have wanted to visit ever since I moved to Pendleton. It's called the Giant. Some also refer to it as the Giant Earth Ship because it is truly a place designed to explore how to create a home without impacting the environment and nature.
In the late 70's Vic Cook purchased 3 acres of land in Pendleton and began his journey. With nothing more that hand tools he hauled gravel and stones from the creek bed below, dragged timbers and logs from within the property, and prepared the earth where the home would stand. During this time Vic also explored alternate energy sources to provide power to this structure know as the Giant.
Over the years Vic's home has welcomed over 40,000 visitors of all ages. The Giant has also been feature in multiple news publications and books as well as being feature in stories by HGTV's Offbeat America and Extreme Homes, PBS's Across America, WIPB's Great Outdoors, and several area TV stations.
Today the Giant stands as a shinning example to one man's dream and what can be done not only to protect nature and the environment but how all of us can gain out freedom from the types of energy sources we depend on daily.

  • Thanks - The music, to fill in the gaps between the dialog and help to set the atmosphere for the story.

  • It would be nice to see the inside since I wont and cant visit it. Im against flying and live in Sweden/Europe. As the video is now its not very informative. But thank you anyway for the little info I got. Intreresting project :)

  • @dslynx: The inside view was a great debate I had with myself during the filming. I was invited to do some video of the interior by the family (That doesn't happen often). That was decided against as that is the main reason and purpose of someone going to see it.

Vic Cook was "Light Years" ahead of everyone in what he accomplished in the creation of this home. After his many, many more were built, not only in the U.S., but worldwide.

  • I'm guessing the "not impressed" is the fact that we don't actually get to see the house. Sounds awesome though.

  • @davidhaleydanceking CARE TO ELABORATE? Or are u just another hater?

  • Pretty awesome video!!! Good story to! But why the music?
