In the early '80s, Jesse Diaz was a rising star in the hip-hop world. Now a broke single father in Harlem with two children to support, Jesse finds a shot at redemption in his nine-year-old daughter Priscilla Star, a precocious and immensely talented rapper. Director Gabriel Noble follows four years of father-daughter ups and downs as they navigate the grit and the glamour of the music biz. Screening at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. • What bugs me is that after all that struggle, the dad didn't see fit to save the money or pay a few months rent or pay off a bunch of bills. Instead they looked at cars and jewelry and clothes! Buy cases of nonperishable food or pay six months worth of rent in case you go through hard times again (which they did.) Don't waste it!!! And yes, I HAVE lived in poverty before, and that was what I did. Any extra cash went to essentials and pay off more and more bills.

  • Saw this on PBS. Good documentary, but I don't know why he'd want his young kid in that lifestyle.

  • @dgurlfly lmao! stfu man..!

  • @PaperMoon2010 Hopefully Pstar's father doesn't have another temper tantrum..smh lol

  • @Morethananoption Okay yeah I can understand that. I'm glad Hunc came back into their lives too. :-)

  • @PaperMoon2010 He got upset because he had a hard time trusting people especially around his girls. He was trying to protect his daughter from getting hurt like any good father would. I thought it was ridiculous as well but I started to see things differently once I took into account all of the things that this family had underwent. Hunc understood what had happened and eventually came back in their lives. I'm pretty sure he'll be around for a very long time.

  • @scorzi You're right but you need to look at it from another perspective. Some people who've never had anything in their lives don't really know how to handle nor how to manage such a huge lump sum. Personally, I don't know what I would do with myself if I were to win $1,000,000. Everyone reacts differently to change.

  • I didn't understand why her father got upset that Hunc took P-Star to the bank to open up her own bank account in her name only that only SHE can access or do anything with. I thought that was a good thing and then Hunc had her put some of her money in it.That was a good idea for many reasons. That will be safe money that no one can touch and if her dad gets in debt or somenthing no collecters can touch her account etc. Plus it will be P-Stars own personal money for her when she grows up.

  • @ishamar039 Yeah she did want it, she could have never gone as far as she did if she didn't want it. You can't force a kid to do something like that if they don't really want it. You can tell her heart is in it , if her heart wasn't in it, she would not have been that good. True the father was living through her trying to recapture his own youth when he was a rapper, but P-star did want this just as much.

  • @thegaymaker Yeah he was homeschooling her and did you see the part where he was going over lesson plans and he misprounounced something and P-Star had to correct HIM? LOL! She did need to be in school or have some kind of professional tutor.
