You forgot my FAVOURITE George Lucas quote:

"One of the fatal mistakes of most science fiction films is they get so wrapped up in showing off the special effects and the hard work they've done that they lose sight of the story. its not that you always become evil, but ya, people can become selfish by putting their loved ones before a "greater good". its like in spiderman when he has to choose between maryjane and a bunch of people to save. and its not about emotional ties as much as control. as yoda would say "control, control, you must learn control." any good thing can become bad if one doesnt learn to control it. passions can consume us to the point where it destroys everything around us.

@Kevinelevin24 But what motivated Anakin to become evil in the first place? Was it because he worried about his mother's well-being when he was on Coruscant in Episode 1? That's perfectly normal and noble but George Lucas is implying that if you don't sever emotional connections between you and family members (especially at such a young age): you become evil. That's just goofy the way I see it.

ya, perhaps youre right-- i was thinking more about the story of anakin skywalker-- becoming the thing he originally was set out to destroy. he became a jedi to fight evil, but because of his human element of emotions and feelings (love, and anger) he becomes evil himself. emotions and feelings are what make us different from machines, but anakin becomes a machine because he relied on them too much. im sorry i find that to be powerful and genius.

@Kevinelevin24 So what I'm saying is that the story wasn't at all good because the plot was heavily contrived,without any regard to continuity or coherence, to pander to its target audience but also because it was split into numerous, complicated sub-plots.

It's also important to note that total creative control was given to the director, George Lucas, and that is always a bad idea (as also seen in Southland Tales).

@Kevinelevin24 Well, I'm going to have to disagree. The story was really bad because it focused on too many sub-plots at once and they were contrived to pander to its fanbase. Remember when Yoda went to some jungle planet (that wasn't at all strategically important in a military sense) in order to just stand around and give Chewbacca a cameo? It doesn't explain how Chewbacca met up with Han and became his sidekick, he was just there, he'd be part of the scenery if he wasn't addressed by name.

@JimSting if the acting/scriptwriting/ pacing was better in the prequels, no one would care that there was a ton of special effects.  the story of the prequels is awesome-- its just hard for people to notice how good the story is.

lucas is awesome and made great films that no other can take down!! (yep, to me dark knight can't attack Attack OF the Clones or avatar take down the 'Return of the Jedi') george is smart and is the BEST
