The main killer in collisions is called CRASH PULSE. There are 3 actual collisions in a crash:

1. the impact of your vehicle with the other object

2. the impact of your body with the insides of your vehicle

3. the impact of your body's internal organs with your body's skeletal bones

In a parachute jump gone awry, your body itself is the "vehicle" and the internal organs impact is the next collision.

This video shows that the human body can withstand the sudden stop deceleration "crash pulse" of up to 35x the weight of gravity (G) if the time of this impulse were kept short. This is like falling 10 feet onto your face.

So its feasible to develop a backpad air bag system that would deploy an airbag in event of a back-first fall in event the main and reserve parachutes failed.

  • @Alltimeboxing, death-row inmates cannot be used becasue they are not volunteers. Forcing them is a human rights violation

    So we need test dummies
