When riding an All Terrain Vehicle, always remember to follow ATVsafety.org's eight golden rules of ATV safety!
1. Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet, goggles, long sleeves, long pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves.
2. Never ride on paved roads except to cross when done safely and permitted by law - another vehicle could hit you. ATVs are designed to be operated off-highway.
3. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
4. Never carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV, and no more than one passenger on an ATV specifically designed for two people.
5. Ride an ATV that's right for your age.
6. Supervise riders younger than 16; ATVs are not toys.
7. Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.
8. Take a hands-on ATV RiderCourseSM and the free online E-Course. Visit ATVsafety.org or call 800.887.2887.

  • Hi. I was wondering what program you use for the entire animation. I would like to learn how to do a video like this but don't know where to start. If you would help me out that would be great. Nice video by the way!

  • @dgress95 The stick figure, the sun and the "moving" text was handdrawn frame-by-frame in Adobe Flash CS4. Everything else was drawn with pen on paper and scanned into the computer, which I then enhanced the contrast of in Adobe Photoshop CS4. When all of those separate elements were complete, I compiled all of them in 3d space in Adobe After Effects CS4. Huh, hey Adobe, how's about you send me a check for all this publicity? Jokes aside, I hope I helped. Let me know if you need more help. ;)

  • Well, the animation is clever and a bit funny, but I think the style of music is wrong for the activity - I should it be something more hyped, not a folk love song! :-)

What package did you use to animate the stick man?

  • @matbroomfield The stick man was drawn frame-by-frame in Adobe Flash CS4 (I know, there are faster ways than drawing each frame but I liked the look it produced).

About the music, consider that this video is trying to promote the lighter side of ATV riding, as a safe recreational activity that anyone could try. If I was to instead compose a fast-paced song, on the other hand, it would detract from the meaning of the video and appeal to a smaller viewing audience. Hope that makes sense. ;)

  • great job man, you deserve to win!

  • @honeybeever Thanks a lot. That really helps. I just purchased Adobe CS5 and was wondering if I would be able to create those kinds of effects. Yeah, Adobe should probably send you a check, but my guess is that you'll be getting some money from this contest anyway. Could you send me your email address so that I can email you if I ever need any help? Thanks again!
