Sexy Robot 3 Intro (digital sample test)

I was going to resist the temptation to upload this before I finish the game I'm using it as the intro for (Sexy Robot 3), but temptation and boredom got the better of me, so here it is :) There's no real SR content in this program yet, just the 'Beyond Reproach Presents...' screen. To be honest it'll probably be a while before I get some serious work done on SR3, too much other stuff to do...

This is my first attempt at using sampled audio in combination with conventional SID sound to create music. It's a C64 version of the music from the Amiga game 'Sexy Droids' - you can see/listen to the original Amiga tune here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=B-ZF-V6fWIc

I managed to grab the original samples by dropping the amiga data into a sample editor, and listening out for the sample data. I think I kept it at it's original frequency rate, although obviously I had to drop it down to 4 bits per sample. I recreated the rest of the music from ear in GoatTracker, and used the timing marks to pass sample cues to the NMI sample routine. If you listen, you'll notice that the tune leaves one channel vacant during the sample playback, this is to allow a special 'amplifying' condition to be set up on that channel to allow the samples to be heard clearly on more modern versions of the SID (i.e. the 8580) in the absence of a voltage-leak. There's still a few samples that go a little quiet on real hardware - I probably just need to make a few tweaks to the tune organization.
