This is a clip from WDIV - Channel 4's segment about former U of M Cheerleader, Darrell (Burton) Moilanen. In 2009, Darrell was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia, a progressive bone marrow disease where patients slowly lose red blood cells and typically require a bone marrow transplant in order to further treat the disease.
Darrell was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a bone marrow transplant in August of 2011. Out of 9 million potential donors, 50 met the guidelines for her match. Darrell was lucky enough to receive her donation, but thousands of patients never get that chance.
Please visit www.marrow.org for more information on becoming a donor. It's easy, relatively pain free, and you can save someone's life.
Great job! Good luck in finding new donors. There is a great need and you may be saving someone's life.
