From the days before video games, here is "Speedway" (1975), an old-fashioned, mechanical arcade game using light projections and moving parts to create the illusion of racing. The game is confusing at first: you actually need to control your acceleration and speed to navigate around the various cars (that are on two loops). The longer you avoid crashing, the more points you score. If you crash, the whole machine shakes (fairly strongly) and scoring stops. The game is for a set time period. There is just a steering wheel and acceleration pedal. Its not your eyes: The game's "screen" is not very bright.
This machine resides at the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is in excellent playing shape.
