I personally find this distasteful and unnecessarily cruel but understand that I am from another culture. Thing is how is this different to eating live oysters, mussels, etc.... and how is it different to what goes on in our killing factories which put meat in our freezers or chickens that live in cages to give us egg so that we can have custard? Is this a case of out of sight out of mind?
