Response to D&AD brief (2007) for a music video for Thom Yorke. I wanted to draw attention to the fact that the video/brief itself is an environmental issue. The video exists to make a point and not to look pretty. I used visual cues from the BP brand which creates the impression that Thom Yorke is similar to BP: they are both brands and both equally responsible for climate change.

The video scooped first prize at the awards!

  • you forgot about cows! they produce all what was said times 20, and then some..My point is, I like thom, but don't be the victim of propaganda...The earth would do the same if we where not on it...That's the truth! Ice caps melt do to a cycle are planet goes though ever 12,000 years. NOT DO TO US (HUMANS) AT ALL! They? make us think that, just so we can go and consume more. Oh no! the end of the world is coming, go get shit to survive...Hint! Wake UP world!

  • You might be right that its a natural cycle for the planet. We have not been studying and recording temperatures for that long.

Even if that is the case it does not excuse our wasteful society. Oil, coal, fish, bees - are all finite resources. We need to be more respectful of that fact.

  • I like the logo at the end :)

Thom may seem like chicken little here, but he is one of the few people who speaks the truth so well.

  • Agreed, Thom is a fantastic singer/song writer.

  • Not entirley sure I agree with you smacking Thom's name on that, unless he activley endorses your message, isn't it a bit unethical to imply that he does?

I don't disagree with you on an enviromental basis FYI, just a ethical one

  • Thom set the brief as part of the D&AD student awards 2007. He was aware of the top entries and this video was the winner... so I think all is well :)

  • Lovely Statistics.

We live in a fucked up world we where spend $2 million in support of the Aids foundation and $750 million watching High School Musical!

  • that's it. i'm destroying my car, getting rid of my computer, and having my electricity turned off. i'm also going to cut down every tree i can find, because trees are used to make paper. and what does paper cause? papercuts. think of all the papercuts i could eliminate! when i have finished all that, i'm going to kill myself. why? because i exhale carbon dioxide, and in doing so, i pollute the atmosphere. thank you, elev3nuk!!!

  • It is true that global warming is a natural cycle but humanes have managed to speed this process by 10 years. Hence, species don't have time to evolve and therefore they go extinct. There are things such as the holes in the ozone layer that have been made over time do to the increase in CO2 emissions.

  • @MoviesPlayGround Facts are NOT brought to light by scientists as economic catalysts,***

  • @MoviesPlayGround Just because it's not convenient to your lifestyle to be responsible for what you do, does not mean that you should spew the same jargon that propagates the ignorance that is hindering any progress. Facts are brought to light by scientists as economic catalysts, they're revealed so that we might, as you say, "Wake UP" and do something to reduce our ignorant destruction of our own life support... Agreed, WAKE THE FUCK UP!

  • @MoviesPlayGround Guess what their findings were.. Yes, every 10-12k years there is a spike in CO2 levels. But since the industrial revolution those levels have grown higher than the previous millions of years, EXPONENTIALLY!! Never before the industrial revolution had the CO2 ppm count risen above 300 ppm.. It's now above 650ppm.. That is not propaganda, it's scientific fact..

  • @MoviesPlayGround In the Antarctic it snows less than 2inches/year. Yet, there is an ice shelf hundreds of feet deep resting on bedrock. This tells us that there is millions of years worth of compacted snow there. By taking ice core drillings, scientists can deduce what the CO2 (and every other gas, for that matter) content in the atmosphere was at an approximate date in history... Dating back millions of year.. Not only can they do this, but they have done this..

  • @Resistanceband lol, we could do things like cut down on a lot of the excess that modern civilization so demands. think about what's actually important to our persons rather than just being avid consumers of everything that tickles our fancies. we can also use our awesome human brains to apply science to the issue, which is largely being done, and continue to innovate about ways to approach electronics, manufacturing etc that least harm our planet and its ecosystems.

  • @newellboy2 it's climate change, my man. differences in convection cycles, the warming of waters and changing of airflows. that's why it's snowed in places that never expect to have snow, and why other places are hot as hell.

  • Good track, but the video is fu**en stupid. Stop trying to scare people, we could get hit by a bus. Anyone one of us could die at anytime, I do not need to hear this bullshit that we will die from toxins within a computer.

  • Question: Why do you own a computer?

  • @elev3nuk what do you mean when you say Thom Yorke is responsible for climate change? And he even shares the responsibility with BP????
