Probably the best version of Blue Cockade from the latest Show of Hands Autumn/ Winter tour. Recorded at the Farnham Maltings in Farnham, Surrey, UK as part of "Folking Live" on Wednesday the 29th November on behalf of Show of Hands and Folking.com

  • A beautiful, beautiful song - particularly good live. Not entirely sure it's actually irish tho - many great folk songs aren't as it's not actually compulsary!

  • Beautiful song whatever the origin.

  • Miranda has a beautiful voice. Gives me chills.

Show of Hands are amazing, so inspirational. Their songs are in a different league completely.

  • Beautiful old Dorset song.

  • Wow. This is fantastic. SoH magnificent live.

Love the bit where Miranda sings.............

  • Great folk songs performed like this reminds me why I fell in love with writing songs and playing guitar. GREAT VERSION! I am wanting to cover this real soon and this video helped me understand the phrasing of these intelligent lyrics that tell a very good story while sharing a bit of history. Thank you for posting this! Mark

  • He wrote it and he won't thank peeps for claiming otherwise!

  • This version was collected in Beaminster, Dorset, UK in 1904. I know that Ms Rusby does a Yorkshire version.

  • Not at all sure, indeed. There was a lot of cross-fertilisation over the years. It wasn't only in the sixties that English soldiers went to Ireland, heard Irish songs and brought them back, whilst trading their own English tunes in exchange. A good song is a good song, no matter its birthplace. Lovely version here, though.
