Performed by the masterful Trevor Pinnock and English Concert Choir, this uplifting piece from Handel's Messiah is accompanied with photographs taken by me of York Minster one sunny afternoon in March 2011.
The Minster of York is claimed to be the second largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe (after Cologne Cathedral). It is famous for many other reasons, most notably being the seat of the archbishop of York, the second highest figure of the Church of England. Like many cathedrals, York Minster has suffered many fires in its 1,700 year history, as well as the effects of the English Reformation and Civil War. The current structure was established in the 13th century, designed to be bigger and better than the competing cathedral of Canterbury, the centre of the Church of England. That status constantly swapped between the two cathedrals for many years. Today, York continues to be the centre of much change within the Church of England with its establishment of female bishops and the first black Archbishop.
stephen its the other peace and love artist. i was hoping you could give me ideas of the size and prices.i don't want to be pushy, just the opposite. i would love to have a tiny part of spreading this joy and paintings. i have lost the fire for painting after nearly 45 years. we have been given an amazing duty...to make this scorned and decaying world more beautiful with our art and music. much peace and love to you. always be true to yourself! looking forward to hearing from you. julia
