Fountain Geyser in the Yellowstone Lower Geyser Basin erupts in early July, 1997. This was only my second experience of this magnificent geyser and the first viewing from the start, and it has been one of my favorites ever since. Although not predicted by the rangers, it is nonetheless a reliable geyser in most years, with intervals frequently between 5.5 and 7 hours, and durations of about 30 minutes. Moreover, it is usually preceded and often accompanied by other smaller geysers in the vicinity including Clepsydra, Spasm, Jet and Twig Geysers. It is a big geyser, with wide powerful bursts as high as 75 feet. It is one of Yellowstone's gems.

  • Hi, ColoradoScorpio - glad you got to see it! It is a favorite of the geyser gazers, and it always draws interest from people who don;t expect it. Luckily, it is very regular in most years, and can be almost predictable at 5-7 hour intervals. Thanks for the visit! :-)

  • Thanks for the visit! Yes, davidsquall351, and just one of hundreds in this great national park :-)

  • This is incredible! As many times as I've been to this area in the park, I have never been able to see fountain erupt. I see clepsydra erupting all the time, but ive never been able to see fountain.

  • Nice! I didn't know anything about fountain geyser, and just happened to be randomly walking by when it started....we thought it might go for a few minutes, and were pleasantly surprised to see it go for so long. It's an excellent geyser, and was a highlight of our trip!

  • looks like a cool spot
