Nearsightedness which is often caused by too much "near work" (computer, reading, school work, fine handiwork etc), can be prevented or reduced using reading glasses.

In the last 30 years, prevalence of nearsightedness have increased by around 60% and most of that results from poor viewing habits during computer use and schooling.

Even the science series "NOVA" recognize that environment also plays a role in our health.

I have designed a fold-able reading stand to improve your posture and help maintain a good reading distance. Find the free PDF file here: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=30241398a9d7e2c0d1014a7a667fa2b4e04e75f6e8...

Bifocal lenses and reading glasses (aka. plus lenses) are highly effective in preventing or at least slowing the development of nearsightedness. Bifocal lenses work by having reading lenses built into the lower half of regular perscription lenses.

Incidences of nearsightedness or myopia, has increased dramatically in recent decades.
This increase is caused primarily by excessive amounts of near tasks such as reading and computer use.
This animation provides information on how to reduce and prevent nearsightedness.
Together, we can make a difference!

We would like to design an effective petition to further this cause. I welcome your ideas and request that you post them as video comments. Thank you

  • Can computer glasses help prevent myopia ???

  • @MegaRichie10 In general, computer glasses have convex lenses that have refractive powers suited for normal viewing distances to computer monitors so they are related to reading glasses in principle. Furthermore, computer glasses usually have amber tint that attenuate some of the blue-light frequency from LEDs or the fluorescent back-light of LCD monitors.

  • @MegaRichie10 Many of the "computer glasses" on various websites do not list the diopter values of lenses so they may just be plano tinted lenses and therefore more like light amber sunglasses, and quite different from convex lens reading glasses. Since many people today spend many more hours reading from computer screen than from print, investing in a pair of quality computer glasses from an optometry clinic, then using it correctly may reduce visual discomforts and strains.

  • So since I have nearsightedness, does that mean I can never see far away objects clearly again?

  • @AwesomeBeast95 It depends case by case. Generally, some near focusing may be attributed to ciliary muscle and can be reduced by reducing near focusing. However, over time for many reasons including the environmental stress of near focusing, nearsightedness can become a more permanent condition.

  • After reading your website, I feel completely betrayed by my optometrist. I'm so short sighted, after a few inches from my face everything is blurry. I never wanted to be reliant on glasses. I want to stop it or try to reverse it somehow, but I don't think its possible. ;.;

  • Basic Science and Physics will tell you that the eye is "relaxed" when looking in the "distance". The plus lens CREATES distant efferct on the natural eye. The result is that plus-PREVENTION can be sustained as presented in this vidoe. This is the second-opinion on optometry and ophthalmology.

  • @syncrjr Neither do I -- but start wearing a strong minus, and in due course you will get down to -8 diopters. That level is "high risk" for a detachment. (Medical study proved this truth.) A person might not "like" wearing a plus for prevention, but saving your vision, and preventing detached retinas is a major reason for supporting Don's advocacy.

  • why does lights and car lights looks like fireworks? lol :p

  • While the minus (when prescribed) is claimed to have "no adverse" effect on the natural eye's refractive status, the dead opposite is true in science. Watch the video response. This issue of "trust" is clear. All professionals SHOULD INFORM YOU of this proven effect of the minus on the natural eye. Virtually none of them will tell you, although science does.

  • I don't want retina detachment!!
