Performed by Colby Snider. This was recorded during a lesson, so it is a less formal performance. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM is welcome, but unless you have a video of yourself performing the piece uploaded to your channel, please keep your negative remarks to yourself. Thanks a lot. =)

SUOMINEITO is in Finish language, in the language of „Suomi" people, as the Finns calls themselves and it means „Finnish girl". This quite and melancolic composition was inspired by an riginal folk song from Finnland , called „Heili Karjalasta". In Suomi language, this means „a friend from Karelia", a region that in the past used to be a part of Finnland. However, the original folk song is in very fast temo and in a happy mood. (it is so called „ Humpa", a kind of Finnish Polca). Suomineito is a probably my persoal reflection on Finnland and on one Suomineito I have met there during one of my concert tours. It should be performed with lot of espression and emotions.

Colby Snider is a Junior at the University of Tennessee at Martin where he is majoring as an Instrumental Music Performance major with an emphasis on percussion. He is a member of the Skyhawk Marching Band, the UTM Wind Ensemble, the UTM Percussion Ensemble, the UTM World Percussion Ensemble, and the UTM Steel Band. He also plays lead pan with the professional steel pan group, Jamaica Me Happy. Colby is a graduate of Bolton High School where he was a member of the school's marching band and symphonic band. He has performed with the All West Tennessee bands and orchestra, the All State Band and Orchestra, Memphis Youth Symphony, UT Martin Honors Percussion Ensemble, Germantown Symphony, and community concert bands. Colby has studied percussion with Rober Kessling, Frank Shaffer, and Mika Karcz. He has attended masterclassses or clinics with James Ross, Ted Atkatz, Eric Sammut, Nancy Zeltsman, James Campbell, Kevin Bobo, Brian Mason, Maraca2, Brian Nozny, John Beck, Davy Anderson, and others. Colby currently studies percussion with Dr. Julie Hill.

  • Very Nice, I whish your had a little harder mallets though...but good job.

  • good job man! all i got is the harmonic minor rubato runs in page two i think(cant give you an exact page number right now) be sure that that stuffs solid. i know not every note will be perfect but if anything try slowing the piece down. i know if i were to watch you play it again it would be probabily fine so i mean its all good. have a good one dude keep playin peace

  • Bro. Great playing. I do have one comment however. Please play this A LOT slower. It was meant to be played as freely as possible. Not so grooving when the melody line is heard. TAKE YOUR TIME...
