BYU America's Freedom Festival Utah Carillon Bell Tower Concert

The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Phillip Sousa, arr. Myhre performed by Don Cook and Russell Sorensen on the caillon bell tower.

The BYU Centennial Carillon Tower has now stood for thirty years as a symbol of freedom and spirit. The annual Freedom Festival Carillon Concert awakens emotions of patriotism and liberty through performances that appeal to children and adults alike.

The caillon bell tower is played at a large mechanical keyboard located underneath the bell chamber. It's long wooden keys are played by the closed hands and the feet. Only the hour strike and half-hour strike are played by an automatic mechanism.

The tower stands 97 feet tall and contains 52 cast bronze bells. The smallest bell weights 21 pounds with the largest at 4,730 pounds. The keyboard consists of broomstick-like manual keys and short pedal keys that are played with the side of the closed hands and with the feet. Each bell plays until the tone fades away naturally, allowing new tones and fading tones to resonate with one another. Don Cook studied carillon at the University of Kansas until he returned to BYU in 1991 where he has participated in the concert yearly.

Too bad that LDS chapels never use bells. They certainly could afford to have many of them if they wanted.

Ik denk dat ik Petit & Fritsen klokken zo mooi vind omdat ze daar nog steeds het profiel van Hemony gebruiken of erg verwant daaraan. Het is alleen jammer dat ze niet standaard in de middentoon stemming stemmen. Dan klinken ze nog beter namelijk. Misschien komt het door mijn levenslange gewenning aan die oude carillons hier in Enkhuizen. Op de cd klinkt het spel van BYU prettig in mijn oren. Dat vind ik niet van alle beiaarden. (niet alleen met grote terts klokken).

@Carillonnl Smaken verschillen dus nog altijd! Maar die verschrikking in de Crystal Cathedral, daarover zij we het wel eens!

Nou het klinkt in elk geval honderd keer beter als die grote terts spoorstaven in de Cristal cathedral en in Deinze. (zie mijn comentaar daar) gemaakt door E. uit Asten. Ik vind deze wel mooi hoor. Op de cd klinken ze veel beter. Kon inderdaad nergens terug vinden wie ze gemaakt had. Ben ik daar ook weer achter. Gideon bedankt. Patat en fratsen hoe kom je er op! ha ha ha. Trouwens die Engelse discant in Oudewater klinkt ook voor geen meter. De oude Eijsboutsklokjes waren stukken beter.
