  • I see so many trainers using treats when they train whats your philosiphy on that subject?

  • @MrBububsnelot I just posted an answer to your question on my blog at writingofriding . com :)

  • So if a horse were to all out buck on the lunge and its just out of playfulness/energy i should not respond? if i were to ask the horse to slow or speed up would it reinforce the behavior? im getting my first horse soon and id like to lunge him, i dont want to make any mistakes and cuase him to buck while riding or anything

  • Bucking happens for two different reasons - out of overstimulation/pain or playfulness/exhuberance. If your horse is playing on the lunge line I would shorten the distance so that you are closer to leading him than lunging until he understands that you are asking something specific from him rather than just letting him get his energy out. If he is stalled regularly it will help to start his lunging sessions after he's had turn-out rather than straight out from the stall.
