this was a great ad, captured the zeitgeist. Britain was slowly becoming prosperous again, but conspicuous consumption was out of fashion.

This was one of 3 ads made for Audi by Bartle Bogle Hegarty in the 90s. All were cynical digs at the car snobbery prevalent in the UK since the 80s. This A4 ad was superb. The following A6 ad featuring salesmen at an airport car park ad was less memorable. But the best of the lot was the A8 "golf club" ad - a hilarious dig at British public-school snobbery complete with sexism and saucy innuendos (I seem to recall it featured Ian Hislop.) I only hope someone posts it up as a reply!

I loved this when it was first aired.

Great ad. But would Audi UK run something like this now? Their current line up of cars seem to get ever more brash and in your face. And what about the tank sized 4x4 they do? I can't imagine the floopy haired sales chap wanting to push one of those. How times change! Maybe Mr Flash would feel more at home in an Audi of 2009 vintage. Shame!

I had a 1999 dizayn 1.9 TDI. Now I've got a company car a 2009 Audi A6 but believe me I'm still dreaming about my first Audi A4. It was a real cool car with a great design.

Good advert shame about the shoddy A4, More trouble then the Passat it was based on and one of Audi's worst cars.
Thats precisely the sort of person who drives your average diesel Audi with LEDs and pisses everyone off
