On the 27/06/09 there was some kind of a clan band parade march that started from the Holyrood Palace and went through the Royal Mile (High Street) and ended at the Castle Esplanade. The band was energetic and fun to watch. The music reminded me of the American civil war movies. Check out the little guy who clashes his cymbals with total energy! The band passed through Grassmarket as well.

  • I think this will have been the return parade of the Edinburgh district on their way home from the main east of Scotland parade in Kirkcaldy.

This is a really good video. Makes a differance from the grainy, shakey, mobile phone footage!

    :-)

  • Thanks Mate!

Looks can be deceptive - especially when dealing with a foreign culture.

This is not a "Clan Band Parade" - this is an Orange Walk. Whilst it might look fun and energetic, it is in fact a parade by an avowedly sectarian and bigoted organisation playing songs considered offensive by many. Note the number of police around - there's a reason for that.

You may have heard the phrase "Scotland's Secret Shame" - that is what you've filmed and now posted on YouTube.

  • Hey mate... Didn't really make sense to me. I thought of it as some band. I am glad you pointed out the real thing.

Sometimes I used to wonder why people made a big thing out of Slumdog Millionaire. The movie was exposing India's shame and making millions.

  • vkathirvel - I hope you enjoyed Scotland. What you watched on the Royal Mile was a gathering of Scottish Protestants celebrating the Civil and Religous liberties won by their ancestors during the Reformation and then the Revolution of 1688-1692. Scotland was one of the nations which embraced these new ideas and suffered persecution for it. There are many newcomers to Scotland who are offended by our liberties and hate these parades. They would rather we were dragged back into the Dark Ages.

  • Ignore the idiot mate - he is merely intolerant of people of a different faith and culture expressing themselves.

Some people in Scotland want to ban the right to free assembly as they don't agree with the reasons behind the parade (civil and religious liberty, civil rights, the celebration of the Glorious Revolution which was an important moment in British history). I think you would agree that the type of intolerance and hatred of freedom shown by barbauch sets Britain back centuries.

  • How unbelievably backward. Unreal. This is in the 21st century, right? Could've fooled me! No to sectarian violence. Enough working class blood spilled! Resist Imperialism. No compromise with capitalism (or communism). Anarchist Jihad. No Surrender.

  • The Orange Order are a Protestant organisation who celebrate the Battle of the Boyne and their Protestant faith. The only people who find it offensive are Roman Catholics who themselves are sectarian and bigoted in the extreme. They don’t have to apologise to any papist for being Protestant and proud of their heritage.
