Manchester United star Ryan Giggs cheated on his wife with reality TV star Imogen Thomas, then obtained a super-injunction to prevent media outlets from publishing his name in relation to the incident.
That gagged British newspapers — with the exception of the Scotland Herald, which published his photo — but it didn't stop thousands of Twitter users or Wikipedia from naming him.
Giggs is now suing Twitter over the super-injunction. His actions have likely drawn more attention to his affair than it would have received had he not tried to gag the media in the first place.
Anyway, trying to hid things from the Internet doesn't help. It just makes the Internet angry. It's called the Streistand effect. And it's on Wikipedia as well. That makes it official. Good luck getting it down from there.
Whereas nobody cared before, now everybody in the UK is talking about Ryan Giggs. Maybe it's time for the UK to do away with super-injunctions.
