Here's a First-Person commentary featuring myself playing Imperial Guard in Soulstorm against a computer opponent set on AI 'harder' on the map 'meeting of minds'. I control group/bind my infantry to #1, vehicles to #2 and heavy weapons teams to #3. Infantry command on #0, main HQ building on #9, Tactica Control on #8, Mechanized command on #7. I also hotkey my workers to the 4-7 keys at the start so I can bash the middle of the numbers range if I need to quickly select both of them while multitasking, otherwise I just hit the fullstop key.

  • u need grenades as soon as possible, thats why u build tatica early this is great cuz grenade knock bak and halt enemy firing ... and u want that cuz ur guards are weak

  • Imperial guardsmen are not meant to be used as "Primary" your supposed to use them to Capture some posts and defend your base while you build for tanks, Imperial guard are famous for tanks not their guardsmen units :P I hope I help anyone who's confused with anything that is not covered by this video.

  • @FeralReactor and dark crusade and in vanilla the only game they wernt OP was in winters assault and that was because the IG had no limits on their good units

  • @Commandos12 That's why as IG you don't build all your buildings in one place - you build them near your strategic points (if you have enough resourses to add some defensive towers is perfect). Also it is not true, that guardsmen in buildings deal lower damage, it is the opposite. A guardsmen deals averagly 10 DPS (damage per second), while firing from a building it deals averagly 17 DPS + The first squad in building fires las guns, the second plasma and the third heavy bolter

  • @pawninwordsandsoon but if u do very very little dmg if u garason ur troops, it will lead to delaying you from getting out of ur base and capping points :o

  • @Kamfrenchie Chimeras are fine, but kind of fragile. If you use them make sure there are guardsmen inside, because chimeras are THE ONLY transport vehicle, through which infantry can fire... but it is tricky - in order your transported infantry to be able to shoot from inside, the chimera should face the enemy with its SIDES, so you must micro play - you should control them so they stand with their sides facing the enemy

  • @elesararwos use your buildings as bunkers and and there is np, I laugh my ass off when i get jetpacs rushed... it's like blood bath for the attacker

  • @Commandos12 better strategy is to build up barracks near the hot spots, where they attack you and use them as bunkers instead of letting your guardsmen go into direct combat. This way, not a single unit will die and after the first base expand build 2/3 sentinels and 2/3 hellhounds, get a commisar, upgreat PLASMA GUNS, NOT grenades and you ready to win
