K-Jetronic Injector testing on car

This is a VW KR engine with Bosch K-Jetronic injection. Since injectors are suspected to work incorrectly, I quick check them. For complete injector testing diffrent equipment is required.

how you removed the injectors? i can't remove mines, they are too hart.

@EarlyRaveMusic you can remove the injectors easier if you warm up the engine because the rubber o-ring is more flexible. When you install back the injector you have to wet a little bit the o-ring to get it slide to it's position easier.

the first injector in the shot is slightly different from the other 3, im sure its from the earlier model gti, and the other 3 are from a later model 16v? can you mix them like that? as far as i know the only difference is the later injectors have two sets of o' ring air seals top and bottom.

@wil828 the only difference between the first injector from left side and the rest is that the first one is missing an "injector cap" which can be easily removed.

Could have explained exactly what you were doing so we wasnt just looking at liquid coming out of the injectors. Explaining the proceedure would have taught us something.

Test procedure:

- remove fuel pump relay from its place and power the pump through a on-off switch

- detach the injection pump from the air filter in order to access the air plate sensor

- remove all 4 injectors and place them like in the picture

- power on the fuel pump

- slowly lift the air plate and watch the sprayed fuel cone shape (must be all the same)

- power off the fuel pump and clean the injectors head from fuel

- wait one minute and examine if any injector is leaking

@Donmega884 I always use a heavy di-electric grease, or K-Y type stuff. Motor oil is probably causing the leakage.

@haxsys I'm having alot of trouble with my injectors leaking after I installed the new ones. I'm using new motor oil to lube the o rings but when I put the rail on with the injectors in I can't seem to lock them in to the clylinder

@haxsys In regards to re-installing NEW O-rings on your injectors, use some grease or K-Y jelly and lube the rings and injector up. If you take the cap from a ball point pen, prefably one of the classic BIC pens, you can set the O-ring on the cap, set the cap on the injector, then quickly slide the O-ring down the cap and it'll pop right into place on the lip of the injector. Hope that offers a little help, I know it's an old post but might help someone else perusing the idea. *cheers*

@SamuraiJerk One trick I use on my VW(s) for removing and installing injectors. I have a cool little tool that looks similar to a fork (with four "prongs") with the two center prongs removed and the outer most prongs bent with a "U" shape on the ends. I take a coat hanger (metal) and fold it in half, using it for the "handle". The little tool grabs on to each side of the injector and a couple good tugs they pop right out, cold, or hot, doesn't matter.

I did a check on an Audi L5E I owned once, and I had five different bottles and then checked the volume for each injector too. That allowed me to tune the balance of the injection. Some K-jetronic master units has a separate lid for each outlet where you can adjust the pressure for each injectors others needs the banjo bolt removed in order to allow access. An allen wrench is needed for adjustment.
