ten years and never once had a problem drop starting a saw holding the top handle.my mate did it the way where you hold the trigger and sawed his toe cap off.how we laughed.the floor start method? if you need to feel this safe with a saw get an office job. chainsaws are dangerous nasty things to be tamed.try getting on a crew if you are too cautious.bit of get up and get stuck in goes a lot further than proper/new way to do things.well thats fate tempted pretty convincingly im off to bed! idiot.

I'd actaully argue that the method shown at 0.51 is unsafe. The operator is standing or squatting on the wrong side of the saw.
All operators should be on the left hand side of the saw, away from the path of chain, bar, etc.

That "drop start" had me fearing for that man's legs.

the clamp start in my oppinion is a sketchy way to start up a chainsaw. you never know what can happen with a chainsaw.

Stihl have a lot of devotees. Komatsu Zenoah are their Japanese equivalent. with Tanaka (Hitachi) a close second for reliability. Zenoah (Komatsu) have just been bought out by Husqvarna, Stihls biggest competitor. Buy what makes you happy and is reliable. Poulan was my worst experience.
Excellent video, kudos to you for taking the time to put this together. For me, clamp start all the way.

Good solid advice (yes, finally!) I like to use the "on the ground" start for a cold saw (big ones anyway), and the "clamp between the legs" when they're warmed up. Good job guys.
