What Hitchens calls "morally sound people", probably refers to those zombies who march lock step, with a society that is mastered by a few ruling elite. Which uses them as slave power to maintain and build their pyrimid societies. They find out their is a higher authority, that is very benevolent, and start rebelling against the earthly totalitarian ones. Who have always made war on the knowledge of the higher benevolent power, with lies, misinformation and death of the Prophets!
