How's it goin', TVD junkies — I'm Jager Weatherby from Wetpaint Entertainment. We're well into this brutal summer hiatus, but that hardly means we've stopped thinking about our favorite Vampire Diaries stars. In fact, there's one supernatural hottie who we never quite seem to get enough of — none other than Mr. Ian Somerhalder. This drop-dead actor, who plays bad boy Damon, is definitely a force to be reckoned with... on and off screen. He's also an arsenal of interesting facts! Think you know all the dirty deets about Ian's home, love, and work lives? Think again! Let's play some Ian Smolder -- I mean Somerhalder -- trivia.

Okay, so you probably know that Ian played a little character named Boone Carlyle on the epic TV smash LOST. But did you know that his character was not only the first to be killed off, but also the first to be cast? And that's not the only interesting thing about Ian's time on the show. Apparently, the dreamy actor was out of steady work for five years after LOST — until he landed himself a sweet little role on a show called The Vampire Diaries, that is.

However, we all know that all work and no play makes for one dull vamp. Don't worry, though, Ian's been workin' his magic with the ladies since he was a wee one. He's dished that his first smooch happened in fifth grade in a skating rink. He's also had fun with a few sexy celebs in his day. Like, did you know Ian was once linked to Nicky Hilton? We didn't know celebutantes were his type, but we do see some similarities between Nicky and Ian's rumored new lovah, Nina Dobrev.. like, you know, brown locks and, uh, names that start with N?

Okay, so Ian likes brunettes — which of course I'm thankful for — but what else makes this supernatural stud's heart go pitter-patter? He says his favorite drink is red wine. Hmm. Coincidence? We think not! He also says two of his other cherished past-times are yoga and horseback riding. Yoga? Mmm... we'd pay good money to see this guy in Downward Dog.

Lastly, let's talk Ian's family life. The blue-eyed babe was born in Louisiana and attended Catholic school at the request of his "spiritual" mother. But he's not the only Somerhalder — Ian has a brother and a sister, and what's even cuter is that the trio own a pizza parlor together. Another fun family fact? Ian's last name comes from his adoptive great-grandfather. According to IMDB, the story goes like this: "His English biological great-grandfather was a wealthy landowner, whose name was Hull. His great-grandfather had gotten one of his mistresses pregnant and paid an immigrant worker of his to marry this woman. They gave the baby a name, which was Somerhalder." Scandalous!
