that's more of pagode, not batucada. It's a slower tempo and different types of drums. Pagode = tantan, repique de mao, pandeiro etc... slower tempos. Batucada = surdo, caixa, repique, agogo, tamborim. Basically a Batucada is much louder and faster.

@musicajuro haha! Yes you are right but batucada is a more general term than what you say and is not defined by speed... and batucada could be any instrument.... and pagode... yes this is a pagode... well done

Straight from Wikipedia - "Batucada is characterized by its repetitive style and fast pace." Not to be argumentative, but not only do most Batucadas start around 170 BPM, also, it really is not a general term. Just thought you would like to know.

@musicajuro wikipedia is not a reliable source. I mean they even put some bossonova of sergio mendez as an example of batucada... and Paul Simon??!? Whats up with that? How about a Brazilian example, where the music actually comes from.
The way I see it, is that the word "batucada" comes from either two root words... "Batuque" or "Bater"
Batuque is the word used to describe the meeting of percussionists (before the time of surdo/caixa).
Bater + verb "to beat". We could be "beating" anything.

@musicajuro ALSO... 170bpm is either very fast or very slow for batucada... Usually samba reaches up to 150 - 160bpm in carnaval WHEN ITS AT ITS VERY FASTEST... and if you were thinking of counting it in eighth notes... It would mean the quarter notes would be 85bpm which is quite slow for samba.
