Here is the sequel to my video "Low Budget Marshall Replacement".

I'm running my old modified Traynor Bass amp chassis through an old Marshall 4X12 cab loaded with original Celestion Greenbacks. The guitar is a 2006 Gibson SG Standard equipped with the original 498t/490r humbuckers rewound to Riffbucker Articulator specifications.

The guitar is fed directly into the amp without any external signal boosters. The amp's master volume is at 2. The cabinet is miked with a Shure SM57 microphone and reverb was added to the recorded track on the computer.

  • Riffguy - you are a phenomenal player but I'm appealling to your circuitry wizardry. I've got an old YBA-2 that had tons of output but very hissy and noisy and a tendancy to pick up radio stations. I gave it to a friend who is trying to clean it up, and his efforts have gotten it quieter without a load, but put a guitar on it and you can't turn it past 1 without a horrible squealing. He hasn't been able to figure it out yet; any way I can phone you for some suggestions?

  • Try using a pencil to tap on the tubes when the amp is on, if one of them starts to squeal when you tap on it, you have a microphonic tube.

  • Nothing "Low Budget" about a Traynor especially an old one like you have there.

  • There is when you only paid 25 bucks and it's chassis with no box.

  • Great sounding amp. I bet master at 2 is some serious volume (same as the JCM 800) ?

  • Yeah, it's pretty loud at 2....very similar to an 800.
