David Copperfield bought the rights to present this illusion from Alain Choquette and gave it more modern look, thanks to Homer Liwag. I've heard that the day Alain Choquette saw David Copperfield's version of this illusion, he wasn't really happy and didn't liked it at all.
-
Gary Ouellet gave the effect the name "A Dream of Aces". The handling of David Copperfield is completely different from Gary Ouellet's effect.
Concerning David Copperfield's Illusion "Thirteen" : This illusion was originally invented by Alain Choquette under the name of "The Verdict". Alain Choquette presented this illusion for the first time on stage for the opening of the casino hotel "Paris - Las Vegas" and uses only 12 audience members.

147 Hurricane & Godfather1029 are both right. Gary Ouellet from Canada put together his own handling of the MacDonald's Aces. Alain Choquette used this version to close his 5th TV special.
As soundtrack Alain choose to use the Love Theme from the movie soundtrack "Cousins".
David Copperfield presented his own version and trick technic of the same effect two years later in his 15th TV special using the same music.

DC is using R&S, with an outstanding reveal at the close (an effortless spread of the 4 aces where it had clearly been shown as one before) Choquette uses no R&S and is closer to the McDonald's Ace routine Frank Garcia was doing in the 70's (see Stars of Magic series) The handling in both cases (DF and AC) is far superior to the earlier versions. Does anyone know the music used in both? Dorian

actually its not Alains trick at all. Gary Ouellet thought it to him, but who cares who's it is evry preformer got his own style of preforming the trick, some people like coperfields preformence some like alains

alain sold the trick to cooperfield...

In mid 1992, Gary Ouellet taught his handling for MacDonald Aces to Alain Choquette, so that Alain could use the routine to close his fifth successful television season.
Soon after, David Copperfield adopted the routine, then adapted it for his 15th CBS special!

Actually, they aren't the same trick at all, they use the same patter, but it's totally different, for those who don't know. Alain et David are great, both using different methods.
Hey Kyle, FYI This is a Choquette original. Copperfield got this trick from Choquette. You can confirm this with anyone who knows anything about magic. As a matter of fact, Choquette was the first magician to use this during a stage show. The choreography to the music is also a Choquette original, and it is Copperfield who chose to use the same music as Choquette. Not the other way around. Also FYI, Copperfield's closing act in his stage show is also from the brilliant mind of Alain Choquette.

yep, original Thirteen is Choquette's invention! Copperfield took it to new hights though.
It was a pleasure meeting Alain a few months ago. He's a really nice guy!
