  • I don't know of any other active newspaper running on this type of technology (please let me know if I'm wrong - twitter @vmkern).

It started in 1887. The founder's son took over in 1947 and led the paper until his death in 2005, at 101.

  • Damn U2B won't allow URLs. So if you want to learn some historical facts (in Portuguese), search for "O Taquaryense, fundado em 31 de julho de 1887, por Albertino Saraiva"

  • There's a Marinoni still in use, printing a weekly newspaper - O Taquaryense, the 10th oldest active paper in Brasil (2nd in Rio Grande do Sul state).

  • (Let's try to fool "Error. Try again" by posting piecewise...)

  • thats so cool

  • what a video, it made my hair stand up, as this is similar to the first machine I ever ran when I started in printing in 1962.

We called them flat beds and had 2 women feeders for each machine who would take it in turns to feed a ream at a time. The major problems would be the furniture between the type would rise and take ink, when you were not watching, a bit like litho machines scumming. A learning process! ALWAYS watch the delivery.

  • I think that whichever machine did a good job some other time in the past deserve our admiration and respect. We have to remember that at its time it was somehow a breakthrough in technology.

  • WOW! I would love to work with you guys, those old machines are one of my passions!
