Icebreaker has launched its new GT high performance merino wool base layer in its collection for Fall/Winter 2010.

The market is awash with synthetics, but until now athletes have been denied the opportunity to buy technical natural base layers.

Icebreaker's new GT merino wool base layer is made from the world's best merino wool, from merino sheep living in New Zealand's Southern Alps. A structural framework of 3% LYCRA® enables Icebreaker to use exceptionally fine merino wool yarn to create a fabric ideally suited for running, cycling and other high-aerobic sports.

Unlike synthetic fabrics, which have a rigid fibre structure, Icebreaker merino wool GT base layers are light, fluid, and mould to the body while it's in action.
The finer yarns keep athletes cool and dry while they're performing at their peak.

Merino wool is light, breathable, odour resistant, soft and non-itch, and keeps the body at an even temperature, while LYCRA® provides shape retention and stretch. The combination of fine merino fibres and LYCRA® has created a base layer that fits like a second skin.

"GT base layer is the most technical fabric Icebreaker has ever made. It's the ultimate fusion of nature and technology," says Jeremy Moon, Icebreaker founder and CEO.

Icebreaker merino wool GT base layers come in two weights: 200, for all-season sports such as running or cycling, and 260, a midweight for winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding. There are 8 styles each for men and women, including long sleeved crewe tops, leggings, and hipster underpants/boxer briefs.

The new garments have a slim, athletic fit and clean, sophisticated styling. They feature a host of technical design features, including flatlock stitching, sleeve gussets and strategically-placed seams to reduce bulk, prevent chafing and give superb freedom of movement.
